Marriott Killed the Bonvoy Shopping Portal. Here Are 14 Better Ways to Stack Points in 2026

Most travelers don’t know this yet: Marriott shut down their shopping portal years ago, and quietly. No goodbye email. No press release. Just gone — since November 15, 2018.

That used to be one of the easiest ways to earn Bonvoy points. Click through, shop at Amazon or Best Buy, points hit your account. Done.

What replaced it is actually better in several ways — including a 55% Chase transfer bonus expiring June 30, 2026 that almost nobody is talking about, an airline shopping portal trick that lands miles into Bonvoy from 10 different airlines, and a Bilt move that pays a 25% bonus on top of everything else.

Here’s the full 2026 playbook for stacking Marriott Bonvoy points without sleeping at a hotel.

Infographic of ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy points in 2026: hotel stays, Marriott Bonvoy credit cards, credit card transfer partners, Bilt Rewards 1:1 transfer with 25 percent bonus, airline mile transfers from 10 carriers, shopping portals, Uber and Hertz partner programs, and buying points directly
Eight ways to stack Marriott Bonvoy points in 2026 — beyond just hotel stays.

🔥 The Move Right Now — Chase 55% Transfer Bonus (Ends June 30)

This is the biggest opportunity on the table this month, and it is barely getting mentioned anywhere. Chase Ultimate Rewards is paying a 55% bonus on every point you transfer to Marriott Bonvoy through June 30, 2026. So 1,000 Chase points becomes 1,550 Marriott points. Minimum transfer is 1,000 UR.

How to do it:

  1. Log into your Chase account at chase.com
  2. Pick a card that earns Ultimate Rewards (Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited)
  3. Open the Ultimate Rewards dashboard → Transfer Points
  4. Pick Marriott Bonvoy, enter how many to transfer (1,000-point increments)
  5. The bonus is automatic — your Bonvoy account hit reflects 1,550 per 1,000
⚠️ Two cautions before you transfer. 1. One-way trip. Once Chase points move to Marriott, they are stuck there — no reverse. 2. Don’t speculate. Marriott points are worth less per point than Chase points used directly. Only transfer if you have a SPECIFIC Marriott stay in mind that the math works for — not as a “I’ll figure it out later” move.

Amex 20% Bonus (Also Ends June 30)

American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 20% bonus to Marriott Bonvoy through June 30, 2026. 1,000 Amex points becomes 1,200 Marriott points. Smaller bonus than Chase, but if you’re sitting on Membership Rewards from an Amex Platinum, Gold, or Business card and have a specific Marriott stay lined up, the math may work. Same one-way rule.

The Bilt Move Almost Nobody Talks About

Bilt is the only program on Earth that lets you earn travel points on RENT. And it transfers to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 — with a sweet bonus most members never notice.

💰 The hidden Bilt bonus. Every 20,000 Bilt points transferred to Marriott in a SINGLE transaction earns an extra 5,000 Bonvoy points. That’s effectively a 25% bonus — 20,000 Bilt becomes 25,000 Bonvoy. Always transfer in 20K chunks.

Ways to earn Bilt points (then transfer to Bonvoy):

  • Pay your rent. The Bilt Blue Card pays up to 1.25x on rent or mortgage with NO transaction fee — the only program offering this. Earning rate depends on monthly card spend hitting tiers (25% of housing = 0.5x, 50% = 0.75x, 75% = 1x, 100%+ = 1.25x).
  • Bilt Dining. Link ANY card to your Bilt account at biltrewards.com. Eat at any of 20,000+ participating restaurants. Earn 2–3 Bilt points per dollar automatically. No app, no special card required at the restaurant.
  • Rakuten as Bilt. Sign up at rakuten.com, then set your Rakuten earning currency to Bilt instead of cash back. Now every Rakuten purchase earns Bilt points across 3,500+ retailers.
  • Lyft. Link Bilt to Lyft. Earn up to 2x Bilt points per dollar on Lyft rides.
  • Fitness studios. Book SoulCycle, Barry’s, Rumble, Y7, CorePower Yoga, Pure Barre, YogaSix, BFT, and others through the Bilt app. Earn up to 3x Bilt points.
  • Metropolis parking. 1x Bilt at 4,200+ parking locations nationwide.
  • Bilt Rent Day (1st of every month). Transfer bonuses to airline partners, double points on dining and transit, free Lyft credits, and other rotating perks. Check your Bilt app on the 1st — never miss it.

The Hidden Move — Airline Miles → Bonvoy (10 Airlines)

This is the move most travelers have NO idea exists. Marriott lets you transfer miles INTO Bonvoy from 10 different airline programs. That means you can shop those airlines’ shopping portals, earn airline miles, and convert them into Bonvoy points. Officially listed on marriott.com/loyalty/earn/miles/miles-to-points.mi.

The 10 airlines that transfer miles INTO Marriott Bonvoy:

  • Aeroplan (Air Canada) — 1:1
  • United MileagePlus — 1:1 (requires Premier Silver, Gold, Platinum, or 1K status; max 50,000 miles/year; no co-branded card required)
  • Atmos Rewards (Alaska Airlines) — 1:1
  • ANA Mileage Club — 1:1
  • JAL Mileage Bank — 4:3 (4 JAL miles = 3 Bonvoy)
  • Emirates Skywards — 3:2 (3 Skywards = 2 Bonvoy)
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer — 2:1
  • Cathay (formerly Asia Miles) — 2:1
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club — 2:1
  • Ethiopian Airlines ShebaMiles — 2:1

How to use this for shopping points:

  1. Sign up for one of the airline shopping portals (the strongest US ones: United MileagePlus Shopping at 950+ retailers, Alaska/Atmos Shopping).
  2. Always click through the portal BEFORE going to the retailer. Earn airline miles on top of card rewards.
  3. Once you have enough miles, transfer to Marriott Bonvoy via the airline’s transfer page (links on Marriott’s official transfer list above).
  4. Some airlines have status gates (United needs Premier Silver+, Aeroplan needs Elite). Others don’t — Atmos/Alaska is the easiest US option with no obvious status requirement.
⚠️ A reality check on ratios. Anything worse than 1:1 means you’re losing value at transfer. Aeroplan, United, Atmos/Alaska, and ANA at 1:1 are the strongest. JAL at 4:3 is decent. Cathay, Qatar, Singapore, Emirates, Ethiopian at 2:1 mean half your miles disappear — only use those if you have stranded miles in those programs and a SPECIFIC Marriott redemption ready to book.

Credit Card Shopping Portals That Stack Into Bonvoy

Marriott doesn’t have a portal of its own anymore, but you can still earn shopping points that EVENTUALLY become Bonvoy points by using flexible-currency credit card portals.

Shop Through Chase. Chase’s own portal. Log into Ultimate Rewards → “Shopping & Experiences” → “Shop & earn bonus points.” 500+ retailers. Earn 1x–15x Ultimate Rewards on top of what your card already earns. Those Chase points transfer to Bonvoy at 1:1 base — or 1:1.55 right now with the 55% bonus.

Rakuten → Amex Membership Rewards. Free at rakuten.com. 3,500+ retailers. Switch your Rakuten currency from cash back to Amex Membership Rewards points. Those Amex points transfer to Bonvoy at 1:1 base — or 1:1.2 right now with the 20% bonus.

Or earn Bilt via Rakuten. Same Rakuten setup, but with Bilt as your earning currency instead of Amex. Then transfer Bilt → Marriott with the 5K bonus per 20K trick above. Often the best route if you can hit the 20K transfer threshold.

7 More Ways to Earn Bonvoy Without Staying

  1. Uber + Uber Eats. Link Bonvoy to Uber at uber.marriott.com. Earn 3 points/$1 on Uber Premium (XL, Black, SUV, Comfort), 2 points/$1 on UberX Reserve, 1–2 points/$1 on Uber Eats orders of $40+.
  2. Eat Around Town dining program. Marriott’s restaurant rewards. Register your credit card with the program once at the Marriott Bonvoy dining site. Eat at a participating restaurant — points hit automatically. 6 points/$1 for elite Bonvoy members, 4 points/$1 for non-elite.
  3. Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, and several others. Earn 2x–6x Bonvoy on every purchase. Most come with a free anniversary night certificate worth more than the annual fee.
  4. RewardsPlus status match. Held United Premier Gold or above? You get COMPLIMENTARY Marriott Gold Elite status (free). And Marriott Titanium or above gets complimentary United Premier Silver. Free elite status both ways — just register at getrewardsplus.com.
  5. Buy a Marriott mattress. Yes, really. Marriott sells the actual beds from their hotels at shop.marriott.com. Earn 10,000 Bonvoy points per mattress. Niche, but if you’re due for a new bed anyway.
  6. Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques. Marriott’s merchandise store at shop.marriott.com. Bedding, fragrances, robes, gift cards. Earn 5 Bonvoy points per dollar on cash purchases, sometimes 6x during promos.
  7. Marriott Vacation Club timeshare presentation. Sit through a 90-minute sales pitch at a Marriott Vacation Club property — they typically pay 50,000–100,000 Bonvoy points as a bonus. You have to show up, listen, and politely say no. Worth it if you can handle the pressure.

The Pro Move — Double Dipping

This is the trick that separates the points hobbyists from the casual users. “Double dipping” means earning points from MORE THAN ONE program on the same purchase. Six combos that work today:

  • Marriott stay + Uber to get there. Earn Bonvoy on the room AND Bonvoy on the Uber ride.
  • Pay the hotel bill with a Marriott Bonvoy card. 6x card points on top of the base 10 points/$1 hotel earn = 16 points per dollar on the room rate.
  • Rakuten + Bilt + Bilt Card. Shop Rakuten with Bilt as your earning currency, pay with the Bilt Card. Earn Rakuten Bilt points AND Bilt Card points on the same transaction.
  • United Shopping + United-branded Chase card. Earn shopping portal bonus miles AND Chase card spending miles on the same purchase — then transfer to Marriott.
  • SoulCycle via Bilt + Bilt Card. Up to 3x Bilt for booking through Bilt, plus 1x-2x on the card swipe.
  • Bilt Rent Day shopping. On the 1st of every month, Bilt frequently doubles points on dining and transit — stack with Bilt Dining and a Bilt Card swipe for a triple-layer earn.

The principle: every transaction has potential to feed two or three reward currencies at once. If you’re paying for it anyway, ask — am I capturing every layer?

Stretch Your Points Further — The 5th Night Free Trick

Most members don’t know this exists. When you redeem Bonvoy points for an award stay, the 5th night is FREE.

💰 The math. A 5-night stay at a hotel that costs 50,000 points per night = 250,000 points normally. With 5th-night-free, you pay 200,000 instead. That’s 20% off every award stay, automatically.

How to use it:

  • Stay must be 5 consecutive nights at the same property
  • All on points — cash + points hybrid bookings do NOT qualify
  • One reservation, one confirmation number (no splitting)
  • Award must be “Standard Redemption” or “PointSavers”

Pro tip: Book in multiples of 5. A 10-night stay gives you TWO free nights — Marriott looks across the whole stay and removes the two lowest-priced nights automatically.

And when you DO finally cash in points for that big trip — protect it. I use VisitorsCoverage travel insurance on every international award stay. Burning 200,000 points on a once-in-a-while trip and losing nights because something went sideways without coverage is not the move.

A Quick Word on What Happened

The shopping portal model — click through, shop, earn — is what Rakuten and the airline portals (United MileagePlus Shopping, American AAdvantage eShopping, Alaska/Atmos Shopping) still use today. Marriott had one too, called Marriott Rewards MORE. It closed November 15, 2018, after barely a year. Before that, “Shop My Way” also closed.

Marriott has been quietly making Bonvoy worth less since the SPG merger in 2018. A hotel that cost 9,000 Marriott points right after the merger now often costs 17,500+. That’s the bigger trend. But the points are still useful — especially with the 39 airline transfer partners OUT, the 10 airlines that transfer IN, and the 5th-night-free benefit. You just have to work harder to earn them than you used to. Related reading: United Bank & DISTRUST! 👋 New to all this? Marriott Bonvoy is the loyalty program for every Marriott-owned hotel — Sheraton, Westin, Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Courtyard, Fairfield, JW Marriott, and 30+ other brands. Signing up is free at marriott.com/loyalty. Takes 60 seconds. You earn points when you stay (10 per dollar at most hotels), but the smart play is earning them WITHOUT staying — through credit cards, dining, rides, shopping, and the airline-portal-to-Marriott trick above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Marriott Bonvoy still worth chasing in 2026?

Yes, if you’re realistic. Bonvoy points are worth roughly 0.7–0.8 cents each — less than Hyatt (1.5–1.7 cents), but more than Hilton or IHG. The flexibility is what makes it work: 39 airline transfer partners OUT, 10 airlines that transfer IN, and a massive property footprint. If you’ll actually use the points, they’re worth earning.

Do I need a United credit card to transfer United miles to Marriott?

No — a co-branded credit card is NOT required. The only requirement is United MileagePlus Premier status (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or 1K). The April 2026 United pay-to-play changes did NOT add a card requirement to this specific transfer benefit (though they affected nearly everything else). Maximum 50,000 miles per year.

What’s the single best way to earn Bonvoy fast without staying?

Right now (through June 30, 2026): the Chase 55% transfer bonus. After that expires: Bilt rent payments + Bilt Dining + the 5K bonus per 20K transfer to Marriott. If you have United Premier status, the United MileagePlus Shopping route is also extremely strong.

How do I sign up for Marriott Bonvoy?

Free at marriott.com/loyalty. Takes 60 seconds. No cost ever. You get a member number immediately and start earning on your first eligible purchase.

Will Marriott bring back a real shopping portal?

No signal that they will. Two previous attempts failed (Shop My Way, then Marriott MORE). The current model — credit card transfers + Bilt + Uber + dining + airline portal routing — is probably what we get from here.
