As many of you know, I am a die-hard , loyal SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) fan! And I, and many other bloggers value SPG Starpoints higher than any other travel currency. With that said, I try to obtain and hoard starpoints any way I can! How else could I afford to stay at the fabulous St. Regis NYC on the same floor as Hillary Clinton (2 years ago).
One of the ways I have accumulated Starpoints, slowly but surely was with their partnership with Uber. Earlier this year SPG and Uber made changes to their partnership , so that you earned less, but now its going away all together. This is sad news for me, because it was an easy and valuable way to earn more Starpoints, and there aren’t many other opportunities other than staying at SPG properties, and credit card spend. Granted this wasn’t alot of Starpoints, but every little bit count.
You will have up until 11:59pm on December 17, 2018 to earn with Uber rides. It’s not clear which side , SPG/Marriott or Uber ended the partnership, but its worth noting that Uber just recently launched their own credit card. At this time the card does not earn any extra points or benefits while using Uber, but that may change once the SPG partnership has ended officially.
With the SPG / Marriott merger currently in progress, one has to be weary of any cuts or changes like this that Marriott might be making.
I’m writing this from a Delta flight, and thankfully, you can still earn SPG points while flying Delta with Crossover Rewards. SPG has a few other partners as well, but will soon be the only other way I earn Starpoints, other than Staying and Credit card use.
Keep your eyes peeled for more and more SPG/ Marriott changes , and lets hope they aren’t more cuts like this.
Thanks for ready and KEEP TRAVELING!!!
